Was erwarten Sie hier?

2024, Book
133 Yarmulkes is an illustrated book for readers ages 10-14 that explores the joys and hardships of Viennese Jewish life through the perspective of an 11-year-old Jewish narrator named Davi. Davi’s best friend Mir is preparing to have the first B’nai Mitzvah in a decade at a small synagogue in Vienna. In order to make Mir's B’nai Mitzvah extra memorable, Davi attempts to help Mir crochet 133 yarmulkes for the event. Throughout this project, Davi and Mir discover new aspects of the Viennese Jewish experience that are not always easy to process.

The visual language of the Hungarian countryside has shaped how I see beauty and the virtue surrounding it has shaped the person I have become. In order to understand the roots of my interest in bottom-up initiatives and peripheral communities, I went back to a place where art started out for me: in the dusty conversations, intriguing anecdotes and the vibrant presence of the people of Cered and the community around the ArtColony Cered.
Cultivation of the soul is the spirit I grew up with. I learned to create ‘off-placed’ realities, layers in which I can thrive freely without preformulated social constraints. In reflection of this work, the term ‘ANIMI’ refers to the immaterial quality of conceptual art practices and their community-building function.
All students are supervised by Univ.-Prof. Virgil Widrich unless otherwise stated.
*Sophie Schmidt is supervised by Univ.-Prof. Mag.phil. Eva Maria-Stadler
The Jury consists of the following members:

A scar, a crease, a subtle asymmetry—marks left behind by the body’s ongoing dialogue with the world. These traces, silent yet persistent, narrate stories of adaptation, routine, and resilience. The body collects them without permission, much like an archive noting that records interactions with time, space, and circumstance. Imprints form through movement, habit, and the passage of time, layering history onto skin and bone. These marks are neither deliberate nor decorative, yet they archive entire lives. They document the contours of existence, shaped not by grand gestures but by repetition, memory, and the quiet weight of belonging to a body that remembers even when we forget.
